Pani Ghatta: Ancestral Left-Over Gifts in Sikles.

Sikles, Kaski

by rajgurung Published on Feb 22, 2021

Pani Ghatta (Water mill) are the left-over old centuries traditional, cultural ancestral gifts in Gurung communities of Sikles village located in nearby water resources of hilly region Kaski, Gandaki Province-4 of Nepal. Since the origin of Gurung communities (originally Mongolian tribes) in the high hilly region of Nepal, our ancestors used Pani Ghatta as the agro-processing tool run with the help of down-flow of the high-speed water in streams, canals. It was used to grind maze, wheat, millet into flour. Flour was only their main food source for feeding the whole family members as well as their cattle (Ox, buffalo) throughout the whole year.  Due to lack of maintenance many of these watermills have disappeared and only of them are left in Sikles that are waiting for Preservation, Restoration from the present young generation before they disappear completely from the history of origin of Gurung communities in Nepal.
