The Newari word Majipa is derived from Sanskrit "Manjupattan" or "Manjusri city". Lākhe is the term used to denote carnivorous demons. Majipa Lakhey literally means the "carnivorous demon of Majipa". It is one of the most recognisable dances of the festival.
