Chatara is situated approximately 11 kilometers west of Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City in the Sunsari District and is well-connected to Itahari Municipality via a paved road. It is one of the most significant religious destinations in Eastern Nepal. Located on the banks of the Koshi River, Chatara holds sacred importance for Hindus due to the presence of numerous temples, large statues of Lord Hanuman, dharamshalas, and other notable religious structures. It serves as a site for various Hindu rituals such as bratabandha, shraddha, and others. Pilgrims especially gather here during religious occasions like Rishi Panchami, Byas Panchami, and Kartik Purnima. Also known as Chataradham or Prachin Haridwar, the area has historically hosted the Kumbha Mela.
